"Working together to enhance Bereavement Support Services in Hospices and Palliative care across the United Kingdom"
Background to the association:
ABSCo was formed at an Inaugural Conference in 2003 following the recommendations of a working party. This working party identified the need for, and recommended the creation of, a network for support and information for people who co-ordinate and manage bereavement support services within hospices and palliative care settings, for both adults and children.
ABSCo is formed from an executive committee of: Chair, Deputy Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and representatives for the 7 designated regions across the United Kingdom.
Aims:
The Association of Bereavement Service Co-ordinators aims to:
- Create a nationwide network for information and support for bereavement service co-ordinators in hospice and palliative care settings.
- Create the highest quality of bereavement support through the promotion of good practice, and information sharing across the network of members.
- Raise the profile and priority of bereavement support, and those who deliver it both within the hospice and palliative care movement and beyond.
Objectives:
The Associaiton of Bereavement Support Co-ordinators offers its members:
- Regular regional meetings, facilitated by a regional representative.
Relay members views, questions, ideas related to the executive committee via regional representation on that committee.
- Annual General meeting
- Annual National Conference.
- Quarterly newsletter containing information from regions, training dates, news and other important items.
- Representation at the Network of Professoinal Associations: Hospice and Palliative Care.
- Representation on a raz\nge of committees and panel in order to raise the profile of bereavement, and bereavement support workers across the U.K.
- An opportunity to be at the forefront of developing standards in bereavement, support service delivery; i.e. training, development, information, selection and recruitment of volunteers.
- Liaison with, and provision of guidance to, other professional bodies at local and national levels.
