Sue lives on her own and has primary and secondary cancer that is terminal. She lives on her own; her family live abroad. She is cared for by the local hospice.
Heather has her own family, but sees caring for Sue as an important part of her life.
Caring at all times
Heather accompanies Sue on trips to hospital and regularly sees her for a chat and to support her through tough times. Appointments with doctors can be especially hard.
"Sometimes we come out and say 'What was that all about!'. But particularly when bad news is broken, that's when we can't deal with anything else."
Heather sees the caring role as an honour, where "you can have a laugh".
"Sue also helps me with my garden," Heather says.
It's not all roses though. Both Heather and Sue have a weight to carry.
"It's a journey and sometimes a distance is necessary to stay sane."
