This year we raised £5.5 million through our income generation activities, almost £1 million more than our target. We received fantastic support from trusts and foundations, raising £1.2 million including £450,000 from the National Gardens Scheme. We also made £60,000 from our 25th anniversary ball, supported by Carlsberg and MMC, and received more than £300,000 from London Marathon runners. Thanks to this fundraising success, we are able to continue to expand the support we give to our members.
We pride ourselves on the level of expertise we offer our members. To make sure we maintain and develop this expertise, we set up two new Board committees: the Strategy and Innovation Committee and the Clinical Committee. Through these committees, we will explore the key issues that will affect the future of hospices and hospice care, and the national leadership role we will need to offer in the future.
Our position in the international hospice and palliative care arena shows the strength and influence of our organisation. This year we continued to facilitate World Hospice and Palliative Care Day and the Worldwide Palliative Care Alliance – the global network of national and regional hospice and palliative care organisations. We also began work, as part of a Europe-wide consortium, on a project to address access to pain relieving drugs in 12 European countries.
