About hospice care

The People and Take it Easy are working with Help the Hospices this year to make a difference for hospice care. Hospice care helps seriously ill people and their families to live well.

What is hospice care?

  • Hospice care helps seriously ill adults and children to live well and make every day count
  • Hospices also support the family and friends of the person who is ill, by offering counselling, relaxing therapies and planned breaks from their caring duties

  • Most hospice care is provided in patients’ own homes, but people can also stay at the hospice or visit for day care and appointments

  • Hospices in the UK support more than 360,000 people each year including people with life-limiting and terminal illnesses and their friends and families

  • Hospice care is free for patients and families, but it is not free to provide
