Challenge events can range from running a marathon in New York, to climbing the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales, and even trekking 80km across the Great Wall of China, all whilst overlooking glorious mountain ranges and ancient ruins rich with history.
One such example is Towergate Charity Champion Graham Madgwick, who has taken on the impressive task of cycling 1,000 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for Help the Hospices. Graham and his companion William Watts set off on 27 May 2010 and aim to cycle an average of 94 miles a day to raise £10,000 for the charity. The duo will be climbing 25,000 metres in 10 days – nearly the equivalent of travelling from sea level to the top of Everest three times over.
Rob Farmer from Allianz will be taking part in the same gruelling journey, but will cycle in the opposite direction, from John O’Groats to Lands End. Rob has raised an astonishing £2,268 so far and his fundraising efforts have even made the local news. This is just one of several challenge events Rob has participated in. Of previous events completed, he said ‘I've completed the London Marathon and cycled from Bristol to Paris so this seemed like the next logical step.’
Rob’s colleagues at Allianz have also been busy fundraising for Help the Hospices, with a team of over 20 employees from the company having embarked on a bike ride from Guildford to Paris in early May.
Other events our corporate supporters have participated in recently include the Virgin London Marathon in April and a 10,000 feet tandem skydive. We appreciate the dedication and effort of our supporters and wish them all the best for their upcoming challenges.
