Placements

A clinical placement is a great way for health professionals to gain experience of palliative care in a different culture or setting and to share knowledge and skills. Remember that if you are thinking of doing your placement in another country, you must be able to understand and speak the language fluently.

How to apply for a clinical placement

Contact us if you wish to apply for a clinical placement in the UK.

Find out what is available in other countries by contacting local services or the relevant national, regional or pan-national palliative care association.

Working in the UK

Physicians from overseas who wish to practise palliative care (or any specialty) in the UK must be registered with the General Medical Council, who could also give advice about sources of information regarding work in particular specialties. For more detailed information on working in the UK, please contact the General Medical Council.

Offering placements

Contact us if you are a UK-based hospice or palliative care service that wishes to offer a clinical placement to a health professional from another country. You can publish your details in our database of UK palliative care clinical placements.
