Since 2001, the John Ellerman Foundation has provided £150,000 each year to support special projects in independent voluntary hospices in the UK. Awards, which are for a maximum of £15,000 should represent a major source of funding for individual projects. They should also make a discernible difference to patients, and to their families and carers, to the individual unit and to palliative care generally.
The grant programme ran in 2007, and is currently closed.
In June 2003 a Celebration Event was held at Peace Hospice, Watford, where past award winners presented their projects, either by a brief presentation or poster display. This was an opportunity to celebrate the success of the individual projects and to demonstrate the importance of the Ellerman Foundation’s funding in continuing hospice development. Ellerman Trustees were invited to attend as a way of saying thank you and for them to see first hand the difference their money has made.
