The research, being carried out by the Marie Curie Palliative Care Research Unit at University College London, will explore the symptoms and health and social care needs of people with advanced dementia, as well as the current end of life care provision for them and their carers.
The first phase of the programme is already underway and involves a year-long study of 100 people with advanced dementia and 50 of their carers. This study will inform the development of a new model of care for people with dementia, and a pilot of this model will be delivered during the second half of the programme.
