Publications

Help the Hospices has produced a number of publications to help support carers, and to highlight some of the issues which arise when caring for someone with a terminal illness.

For carers

Carers Pack

The Carers Pack is a support and information guide for people who are caring for a relative or friend with a terminal illness. It consists of a series of short leaflets, including information on money matters, caring at home and nursing.

Young Carers Guide

The Young Carers section of the carers pack is also available as a standalone guide: the Young Carers Guide. This includes information on health issues, problems at school and finding further help and support.

Caring counts

Caring counts is a 28-page booklet for people who care for someone who has been diagnosed with a life-limiting disease. More than 100 hospices have customised the booklet, adding some local information.

Flexible working booklets

The Flexible working booklets have been developed by Working Families and Help the Hospices. There are two booklets - one for carers and one aimed at employers - which focus on juggling work and a short-term caring responsibility.

When caring comes to an end

When caring comes to an end, developed by Carers UK in partnership with Help the Hospices and ACE National, is for people whose caring role has ended or is about to end.

For professionals

Carers' services guide

The Carers' services guide is a useful resource for organisations planning to set up support services for carers of the terminally ill. It includes helpful tips and case studies. The second edition of the guide was launched in November 2008.

Identifying carers' needs in the palliative setting

The Identifying carers' needs in the palliative setting guide has been developed by an expert working group. It provides a framework for developing a carers' assessment process in the palliative setting.
