  • The impact of the action learning set approach in nursing homesEffective leadership is necessary to meet end-of-life care needs in Nursing Homes. This requires appropriate training and support.
  • Enterprise initiatives: to boldly goThe role of enterprise in the charity sector is increasingly that of entrepreneur. As the down turn in the economic climate reached the high street so did the realisation that traditional routes of income generation could no longer sustain current patient care provision, nor give scope for future planning and direction
  • Better together carers programmeCarers of palliative patients will often put their needs second to those for whom they are caring, but we know that their needs are great. Rapid changes in patients` condition and the emotional and relationship changes this brings are hard, requiring constant adaptation and emotional resilience.
  • What is good end of life care after stroke?Stroke is the third commonest cause of death and causes significant symptoms and disability. Acute stroke care in the UK predominantly occurs in hospital. Guidelines recommend that patients should be cared for in stroke units to improve survival and disability.
  • Role of a hospice education unit in leading the development of an end of life care model of serviceThis innovation has been developed and led by a palliative care education centre supported by two hospices. It illustrates how hospices can lead, innovate and influence the quality and strategic direction of end of life care (eolc) within their community.
  • Establishing a nurse led specialist palliative care satellite clinicIncreasing referral numbers within a rural location have prompted us to explore new ways of working to not only increase timely access to specialist palliative care services but also to also ensure that these services, when deployed, function effectively and meet the changing needs of patients and families.
  • Psychological contracts of hospice nursesThe aim of this research was to examine the context of psychological contracts of hospice nurses, to explore what they might contain, and also to establish how the contracts might be influenced, with a specific exploration of what may breach the contracts.
  • Innovative pre and post bereavement work with children: unique ways with animalsThrough the catalyst of 'pony experience' bereaved children and parents are facilitated into meaningful conversations with each other and supportive relationships with other families
