Spring Forward conference, 2002

Held at Sheffield University on 12 April 2002, the Spring Forward Millenium Award winners conference celebrated the success of the scheme and offered an opportunity for our award winners to meet with volunteers from other hospices.

The displays demonstrated a variety of projects including:

  • reflexology

  • massage

  • headwear for patients with hair loss

  • encaustic art

  • painting

  • belleplate (handbell) ringing.

About the conference

The delegates were welcomed by the author, television and radio presenter Diana Moran. They then heard from Hilary McNair, a former Matron of St Francis Hospice in Berkhamsted, who is a Help the Hospices trustee and chair of the Help the Hospices Millennium Awards committee. Hilary outlined the work of the committee which reviewed all of the scheme's applications.

This was followed by a moving presentation from Lucinda Jarrett, artistic director of Rosetta Life. Rosetta Life is an artist-led organisation which enables patients and their families to explore their experiences through video, digital photography, drama, poetry, the Internet and fiction.

Millennium Commissioner Judith Donovan concluded the day with thanks to all of our award winners, who demonstrated the extraordinary achievements of hospice volunteers.
