Assesment process and how to claim

Applications are assessed by officers working at Help the Hospices and hospice23.

 Assessment process

Applications will be assessed and ranked according to the following criteria:

  • the degree to which your attendance at the conference will improve palliative care provision in your workplace
  • the degree to which your attendance at the conference will encourage shared learning across organisations and geographical areas
  • the availability of funding from other sources to supplement a bursary from hospice23.

It is important that you address each of the above points in your application. These are not listed in order of importance. More information will be requested if required and the application can not proceed until this information is submitted.

Allocation of any previous hospice23 funding will be taken into account.

We will write to the chief executive/director of the organisation with a decision on the application at least six to eight weeks before the conference date.

We always receive more requests for funding than we can award, therefore your application’s success can not be guaranteed and the committee’s decision is final.

If the application is declined, a declination letter will be sent to the supporting manager.

Successful applications

If your application is successful, an award letter, acceptance form and bank details form will be sent to the chief executive/director of the organisation. The acceptance form must be signed by the applicant and the chief executive/director and returned to the grants team, agreeing to the conditions of the grant.

To claim your grant

Conference fees will be paid directly to hospice23. Any remaining balance of your grant will be paid to your employing organisation by bank transfer. This is to cover travel and accommodations costs as outlined in your application.

We cannot pay the grant until we receive the signed acceptance and bank details forms.

You can request payment of the bursary either before or after the start of the conference.

Payments will not be made to an individual.

Bursaries are valid for twelve months from the award date and can only be used for attendance at a hospice23 conference. We reserve the right to withdraw funding after twelve months if it is not claimed, so it is important that you keep us up to date with progress.

Once the grant is spent

Once the grant has been spent, you will need to send us evidence of expenditure, such as copies of paid receipts and invoices in relation to the bursary.

Each successful applicant will be asked to complete an event evaluation form which must be submitted to hospice23 within one week of the completion of the event.

In addition a report or article for the hospice23 newsletter should be submitted to the hospice23 newsletter editor within one month of the event, highlighting:

  • personal learning outcomes
  • the benefits envisaged for patients/colleagues in your work place.
