Wolfson international bursaries

This programme is now closed. The deadline for applications was Wednesday 5 August.

The Wolfson international bursary grant programme aims to increase and improve the provision of palliative care in commonwealth resource-poor countries.

This list of countries is based on the UN human development index 2008.

Who is it for?

Bursaries are available for nurses, doctors and clinical officers from those countries to attend accredited palliative care education courses. Please note that if applying for a course in the UK, you are expected to have an adequate understanding of the English language.

Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing problems associated with terminal illness. The highest value is put on respect, choice and empowerment.

Available funding

Total available funding in this round is £50,000 and we are looking to make individual grants of up to £1,500.

In a few exceptional cases, we will award a small number of Wolfson leadership bursaries of up to £5,000. These are only available for key leaders with a national, or potentially national, leadership role to develop their palliative care skills.

Individuals who receive a Wolfson Leadership bursary will need to demonstrate that following the course, they will have a high impact on future palliative care within their state/country.

Deadlines

Deadline for applications is Wednesday 5 August 2009.

The application procedure from initial application deadline to funding decision will usually take up to four months.
