Further information on how to complete each question is provided in the application form guidance notes.
These application process and assessment criteria information are available as a PDF.
Applying online
Emergency grants can be applied for quickly and easily online. Please follow the instructions below. We also have a more detailed set of instructions for people needing help applying online.
Before you can access the online application form you will be asked several questions in the eligibility filter. Please note that responses to this are not sent to Help the Hospices but if answered correctly will allow you to access the form.
Accessing and completing your application form
To begin a new emergancy grant online form, first contact the grants team to discuss your proposal. If it fits the criteria the link to complete the online form will be sent by email.
To return to a saved application, sign into your existing account. This will take you to a page which displays both your completed and in-progress applications.
When you are filling in your application form, please give us concise answers as some questions have a limit on the number of words you can write.
If you are successful we will ask you to report back on your grant by referring to the answers you have written on your application form, so it is important to be realistic in your answers.
Submitting your application
Once you have completed the form you can submit it online. To submit, go to the last page of the application form and at the bottom is a ‘review and submit’ button. This allows you to check through your application before sending it. Once you are happy with it, click ‘submit’ and a message should appear stating that it has been sent.
You will also receive an automated email acknowledging receipt and on your account page, the application will show under ‘submitted applications’ rather than ‘open applications’.
If this does not happen then the application has not been submitted.
Supporting documents
Please send any other supporting documentation eg consultant's CV, needs analysis, consultants report, by post to:
Grants team
Help the Hospices
34-44 Britannia Street
London
WC1X 9JG
Alternatively they can be scanned in and sent as an email attachment.
Please note that depending upon demand it is possible that only a small number of applications will be funded, so the success of your application can not be guaranteed.
Applications will be considered by officers at Help the Hospices using the following assessment criteria.
In considering the overall strength of your application we particularly want to know:
-
What is the current financial situation faced by your hospice and potential impact upon your services?
-
What is your proposed solution to the situation?
-
Why you think your proposed solution will succeed?
Your application will be assessed against the following criteria:
-
the extent to which the proposal offers a strategic plan forward for the hospice
-
the extent to which the proposal will improve long-term sustainability for the hospice
-
the extent to which the proposal will address the financial need identified by the hospice
-
the adequacy of plans to measure/evaluate the effectiveness of the proposal
-
the extent to which the proposal will result in immediate benefit for the hospice
-
the extent to which the proposal represents value for money.
What happens if successful?
Initially
If your application for a grant is successful then we will send an award letter, together with an acceptance form, to the application sponsor, usually the chief executive of the hospice.
The acceptance form must be signed by the sponsor as well as the applicant, agreeing to the conditions of the grant. Where the chief executive is the applicant, a trustee of the organisation will need to sponsor the application. We also ask you to confirm which dates the project will start and when you expect to complete it.
Payments will be made on evidence of expenditure such as copies of paid receipts and invoices in relation to the grant and all grants must be claimed within twelve months of the award date.
We reserve the right to withdraw funding after twelve months if it is not claimed, so it is important that you keep us up to date with progress.
Once your project is complete
We will ask you to send us a final report at the end of the grant funded period of your project, which will ask for further information about what you have achieved and what wider differences the work has made to you and your hospice.
We also require a copy of any associated report produced by a consultant as part of their involvement.
