Changes to the programme
Following a period of review, the following changes will be made to criteria of the Professional Development grant programme:
-
The maximum grant available will be raised to £1,500 per person, per year.
-
The four year maximum limit of £1,500 will be removed so that there will now be no maximum apart from the annual limit mentioned above.
These will come into effect on 1 April 2010 and last for 12 months as a pilot.
The programme
A maximum of 50% of the fees of any supported course, up to £750 a year may be awarded to individuals.
This programme is administered on a 'fast-track' basis, which means we aim to make a decision on an application within one month of receiving it.
Applicants from member hospices
Professional development grants are available for clinical and non clinical staff working in full UK member hospices of Help the Hospices. Applications do not need to be match-funded by the employer.
Applicants from associate member hospices
Clinical staff working in associate member hospices can also apply for funding towards courses specifically focused on palliative care where the grant is match-funded by the employer.
Applications must be accompanied by evidence of matched funding, for example, a letter from their employer.
Available funding
The programme for 2009/10 has a budget of £400,000. Grants are awarded on a fast-track system – first come, first served. In the event that the budget has been fully allocated, we will be unable to consider further requests for funding.
This programme is supported by a variety of funders, each of which place their own restrictions on how their funds can be used. This means that there may not always be funds available to support your particular application.
