Professional development grant programme

Open to all staff at UK member hospices and clinical staff in associate member hospices, professional development grants can be used to attend a wide range of courses, conferences and study days that will contribute to improving the quality of care given to people in need of palliative care and their families.

The programme

Individuals can apply for a maximum of 50% of course or module fees, up to a total of £1,500 per year. This is a significant increase on the amount available in the last financial year, so this is being run as a pilot programme for 12 months to monitor demand.

Professional development grants can be applied for at any time and are awarded on a first come, first served basis throughout the year.

This programme is supported by a variety of funders, each of which place their own restrictions on how their funds can be used. This means that there may not always be funds available to support your particular application. In the event that the budget has been fully allocated, we will be unable to consider further requests for funding.

The programme is administered on a 'fast-track' basis, and we aim to make a decision on an application within one month of receiving it.

Applicants from full member hospices

Professional development grants are available for clinical and non clinical staff working in full UK member hospices of Help the Hospices.

Applications do not need to be match-funded by the employer.

Applicants from associate member hospices

Doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants working in associate member hospices can also apply for funding towards courses specifically focused on palliative.

Matched funding

The grant must be match-funded by the employer. A letter stating how much the employing organisation will be contributing to the course must be sent before an application can be considered.
