Application process

Professional Development Grants can be applied for quickly and easily online. You are strongly encouraged to read the guidance and criteria before you begin your application.

Applying online

Before you can access the online application form you will be asked several questions in the eligibility filter. Please note that responses to this are not sent to Help the Hospices but, if answered correctly, will allow you to access the form.

Start a new application form

To begin a new professional development grant online form, open a new application form.

If you have not have an account, you will need to set up a new online application account by selecting 'I am the new online applicant' and completing the requested information.

Once you sign in the first page will be the eligibility quiz.

Open a saved application form

If you have already started but not completed a professional development grant online form, then you can return to it by signing into your existing account. This will take you to a page which displays both your completed and in-progress applications.

What questions will I be asked in the form?

As well as general questions about your organisation, you and the course you intend to do, we ask:

  • why you want to attend the course and how it fits with your professional development plan

  • how attendance will contribute to the improvement of palliative or direct patient care at your place of work.

We also ask your supporting manager to:

  • state how the course will improve your personal skills and development as well as the services offered by the hospice.

Next steps

Once the completed form has been submitted online, a message will appear stating that it has been sent. An automated confirmation email will be sent to the applicant confirming receipt of the request and that the application is now under consideration.

Other ways to apply

If you do not have access to the internet, you can also apply by completing a paper application form. Please contact us to request a paper version of the application form.

Assessment process

Applications are assessed by officers working at Help the Hospices. If more information is required, an email will be sent to both the applicant and the supporting manager. The application can not proceed until this information is submitted.

We aim to let the applicant know the outcome of their application no later than one month from the date it was received. However, if it is going to take significantly longer then we will communicate with you.

If the application is declined, a declination letter will be sent to the supporting manager.

flow chart of the application and assessment process is available.
