Who is eligible?
This programme is only open to staff from hospices that are members of Help the Hospices.
All applications must be supported by the applicant’s employing organisation and countersigned by the hospice Chief Executive or Chairman. The support signatory must explain why the masters course will significantly improve the applicant’s practice.
Available funding
Funding available is:
- a maximum of £2,500 per year, per individual
- a maximum of £5,000 can be awarded to any one individual for the duration of the course
- one bursary only per hospice can be awarded over any two year period.
Assessment process
Your leadership potential will be considered when your application is assessed.
Requests for grants may exceed the amount of funding available so your application’s success cannot be guaranteed.
Successful applications
If awarded a bursary, Help the Hospices reserves the right to publish your dissertation/end of course paper.
On completion of the course, you will be asked to submit an evaluation report.
Payment conditions for Towergate bursaries
All bursaries made will be paid direct to Lancaster University.
Bursaries must be claimed within 12 months of the award being made and we reserve the right to withdraw funding on grants older than 12 months.
General conditions for Towergate bursaries
If you leave the palliative care arena within 12 months of completing the course, you will be asked to refund 50% of the bursary awarded.
You must inform the grants team in writing if you will not be claiming the grant.
If the dates of the course significantly change subsequent to funding being awarded, then it is necessary for the applicant to check that the grant remains valid.
What is not eligible?
Applications which are:

from staff in the NHS, Marie Curie cancer care units, Sue Ryder homes, Macmillan postholders or private nursing homes
-
to cover subsistence, travel or accommodation costs incurred whilst attending the course.
