Clinical placements

Some hospice and palliative care services in the UK offer opportunities to overseas practitioners to gain experience of palliative care.

Length

Placements are usually for one to two weeks and would usually be for observation purposes only.

Who can apply

Applicants must have a good working knowledge of the English language.

How to apply

We will be producing a guide to clinical placements in UK and Irish hospice and palliative care services. Contact the Hospice information service for more information.

To apply for clinical placements in countries other than the UK and Ireland, please contact a local service or national, pan-national and regional palliative care associations. Search our directory of palliative care associations for contact information.

Guidance on working in the UK

Physicians from overseas who wish to practise palliative care (or any specialty) in the UK must be registered with the General Medical Council, who could also give advice about sources of information regarding work in particular specialties. For more detailed information on working in the UK, please contact the General Medical Council
