Assessment, audit and data collection

If you are involved in assessing or auditing hospice and palliative care services, or need to collect data, there are several places you can find useful advice.

Resources

King's College London

The Department of Palliative Care, Policy and Rehabilitation at King’s College in London is a large, multi-professional academic department. It collaborates with many palliative care teams, hospices and related services in the UK and overseas.

You can download a range of publications, questionnaires and tools, including the Palliative Outcome Scale, from the King's College website

National Council for Palliative Care

The National Council for Palliative Care provides many resources on ethical issues and clinical and policy guidance. These cover key subjects, such as non cancer palliative care including dementia, managing the last days of life, workforce and commissioning.

One useful resource is the Minimum Data Sets Project. The Minimum Data Sets are the National Survey of Patient Activity Data for Specialist Palliative Care Services in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The survey is a key source of information on NHS and voluntary sector services.

You can get information about subscribing, ordering publications and events on the National Council for Palliative Care website.
