  • Food and nutrition July 20099 July 2009 The Food and Nutrition Group’s 2007 survey of hospices underlined the need for more teaching and training on nutrition. Help the Hospices organised a one day conference, which aimed at guiding delegates through current issues and aiding continuous improvement in this area.
  • Plan, don't panic - Infection prevention and control8 July 2009 Helping hospices fulfil their key role in contributing to the success of the general response to, and recovery from, a pandemic. Presentations available to download.
  • Managing the second death: dying well with dementia4 June 2009 Help the Hospices in partnership with St. Luke’s Cheshire Hospice and the Academic Palliative and Supportive Care Studies group, University of Liverpool.
  • Moving on, moving out: from children’s to adults29 April 2009 This conference explored decision making in capable young people within the framework of the Mental Capacity Act. We also looked at how the End of Life Care Strategy relates to young people. This was the first conference held by the national Transition Partnership, focussing on the challenges for young people with palliative care needs moving from children's to adult services.
  • Identifying carers' needs study day3 March 2009 This study day looked at issues for palliative care providers when developing a process to assess the needs of carers.
  • Food and nutrition in palliative care: the way forward12 February 2009 The Food and Nutrition Group’s 2007 survey of hospices underlined the need for more teaching and training on nutrition. We have responded by organising this one day conference aimed at guiding attendees through current issues and aiding continuous improvement in this area. This course was repeated in July 2009.
  • Time to Care conference26 November 2008 This conference was chaired by Geraldine Burke, Director of Patient Services at St Luke’s Hospice in Harrow, and chair of the Help the Hospices Carers Steering Group.
  • Philosophy of hospice care11 November 2008 Following the success of this one day conference held in December 2007, Help the Hospices and The Shakespeare Hospice repeated this event to explore the important question, ‘What is the purpose of hospice care today and what thinking guides our future’?
  • Help the Hospices and Forum of Chairmen of Independent Hospices conference 20083 to 4 November 2008 This stimulating conference brought together eminent presenters to identify the major changes in the existing health care environment and the anticipated impact on hospices.
  • Infection control study day21 October 2008 The Help the Hospices Infection Control Group developed a study day for all staff – both clinical and non-clinical – to help them understand their role and make their contribution to cleaner, safer hospice care.
