We promote the value and contribution of hospice care with politicians from all political parties. We work with our members and other organisations to influence the policy development process and to secure a better deal for all in accessing high quality palliative and end of life care.
Influencing government
The decisions that government takes on a variety of issues directly affects the work that hospices do to serve their local communities. We work to make sure that the importance and value of hospice and end of life care are integral to the development of government policy.
Public affairs
Members of Parliament and representatives in the devolved administrations are crucial champions for their local hospices and the work of the hospice movement. Our public affairs work includes being a voice for hospice care in the UK Parliament and within the devolved administrations.
Hospice funding
Most of the funding for hospice care comes from local fundraising. Only around one third of the costs of providing hospice care are met by the government. We are working to secure a better and fairer funding arrangement for hospice care.
Carers policy
Carers provide crucial support to people who are dying. We promote carers' issues and work to influence the development of carers policy, supporting the work of the Care for Carers of the Terminally Ill project.
Responding to consultations
We work with our members to make sure that the voice of hospice care is reflected in policies and laws by responding to consultations issued by government and relevant national bodies.
