Hospice funding

On average, adult charitable hospices in England receive just 32% of their costs from the government or NHS, although the actual amount of state funding for local charitable hospices around the UK varies considerably. Children’s hospices receive far less funding support from government or the NHS.

Hospices therefore rely on local communities to provide the funds to deliver care for local people.

What we are doing

Help the Hospices is working to secure fairer funding for hospice care; funding that reflects the amount of work that hospices do for the NHS.

Every year we do an analysis of the accounts of independent voluntary hospices in the UK, which can be used as a benchmarking tool. Access the latest report via our publications catalogue.
